General info.
1. Date
The 2012 Kilkenny Half Marathon and 10km will take place on Sunday 16th Septemeber.
2. Start times.
The Half Marathon starts at 11 am. The 10 km starts at 12 midday.
3. History.
2012 will be the 4th Kilkenny Half Marathon and 10 km, following on from great events in 2009, 2010 and 2011. The event gives athletes the chance to experience the vibrant city of Kilkenny and achieve their sporting goals at the same time. The event is organised with the goal of delivering enjoyable athlete centred races. We are committed to continuously improving the event.
4. Environment.
We have Eco Zones after water stations and at the finish line. Athletes have clearly designated areas for disposing of their water cups/bottles and food wrappers etc.
5. First Aid.
First Aiders and an Ambulance will be present on race day in the event of any athlete needed medical assistance.
6. Marshalling.
The event is very well marshalled by some very friendly people. Athletes must follow marshals instructions at all times. They are there for the safety of athletes and the general public. An Garda Siochana will be present in certain locations.
7. Timing system.
All athletes will receive a timing chip at sign in. This allows each athlete to receive an accurate time for their race and hopefully a personal best.
8. Parking.
As it will be a Sunday morning the city traffic will be relatively quiet and parking should not be a problem. Please note that much street parking requires a parking ticket. There is a multi-storey car park (Ormonde Car Park) close to the race starts.
9. Post race refreshment.
There will be water and fruit at the finish line area after athletes receive their finisher’s medal.
10. Post race analysis.
There are numerous Pubs and Restaurants close to the finish area where athletes usually meet up and relive their race day memories with other athletes, friends and family.
12. Social networking.
Please become friends of our Facebook page. This will keep you informed of details as the event gets closer.
13. Post race survey.
Following the event we do a post race survey. The comments of athletes are used to shape the event for future. This is very much an event designed by runners. It is also used to select winners for the Funnel Ball play equipment. See the Charities tab for more info.
